SSFCU was chartered as a private financial institution in February of 1937 to serve the employees and their families of Sears Roebuck in Long Beach, CA. Our original name was Sears Long Beach Employees Federal Credit Union. As our products and services grew, so did our charter to include many of the Sears stores including those in South Coast Plaza, Buena Park, Orange and Santa Fe Springs to name a few. Over the past 70+ years, we've changed our name a few times, added several companies to our charter such as Nutrilite Products, Inc., all stores in the Buena Park Mall, Oakley Sunglasses and several small to mid-size businesses bringing the total companies we serve to 23 under the name of Southland Savings Federal Credit Union.

Although our name has changed in the past 7 decades, our commitment to provide members with free or low-cost products, exceptional and efficient service while remaining a private, financial institution owned only by our members, has not. Southland Savings Federal Credit Union is one of the few remaining private credit unions in Southern California not open to the general public. Being private, we have the advantage and flexibility to continually be in forward motion able to respond quickly to member or industry needs with a fresh and timely response.
